Palafrugell
Palafrugell is a large town, and it's where our office is. It's a strategic spot on the Costa Brava, 10 minutes by car from the centre to the coast, with life all year round. As the centre of Palafrugell isn't right on the beach, prices for both houses and flats are lower than on the coast.

Begur is probably the most glamorous spot on the Costa Brava. There's a strong international presence, mainly French and Central European. Areas such as Aiguablava and Sa Riera are home to top-end luxury properties with sea views.

Living in the Baix Empordà
The Baix Empordà is a small region with very different landscapes. On the coast, coves of clear water between pines and rocks, fishing villages such as Calella, Sa Tuna and Tamariu, and villas with sea views. Inland, medieval stone villages, farmhouses among cereal fields and rice paddies, and the Gavarres hills.
Life changes with the seasons. In summer the coast fills up and the inland villages are a quiet retreat; in winter, towns such as Palafrugell, Palamós, La Bisbal and Torroella keep their shops, schools and services, and the region settles back into a calm pace that many people choose to live with all year round.
Girona, with its airport and high-speed rail station, is less than an hour from anywhere in the region, and Barcelona an hour and a half. That closeness, together with the quality of life, explains why more buyers arrive every year from Barcelona, France and northern Europe.

Frequently asked questions about the areas
Which is the best area to live in all year round?
The ones with services in winter: Palafrugell, Palamós, La Bisbal, Torroella de Montgrí, Sant Feliu de Guíxols or Platja d’Aro. The villages around them, such as Llofriu, Mont-ras or Santa Cristina d’Aro, combine peace and quiet with those services five or ten minutes away.
Where is it most affordable to buy in the Baix Empordà?
Generally, inland and in the villages on the Ter plain and, on the coast, in L’Estartit, L’Escala or Sant Antoni de Calonge. The most expensive areas are Begur, S’Agaró and the coves of Palafrugell.
Which areas are best for a second home?
If you want to walk to the beach: Calella, Llafranc, Tamariu, Sa Riera, La Fosca or Platja d’Aro. If you’d rather have peace and space, the residential estates of Begur, Pals or Santa Cristina d’Aro, or a farmhouse inland.
Which inland villages are worth a look?
Peratallada, Monells, Pals, Palau-sator, Ullastret and Madremanya, among others, have kept their medieval centres and are twenty minutes from the coast. They’re ideal if you’re looking for a stone house or a farmhouse.
